    Jamaica birds?

    We need a travel forum.....

I just booked a trip to Jamaica for Thanksgiving.  This will be more 'family vacation' then birding trip, but I'm hoping to sneak off for a day and get in some genuine birding.

Has anyone ever been to Jamaica??

We will be staying in Montego Bay.  Definately will be visiting the Rocklands Bird Sanctuary.

Looking for advice on birding tours/and or guides.  I did find Jamaican Birding Tours on Birding Pals. So far that's the only one I can find. Also Fritz at Rocklands does tours.  Has anyone ever used either of these?

    Any and all advice welcomed.

    Thanks

    Re: Jamaica birds?

One bit of advice about Jamaica is, under no circumstances venture outside your hotel compound alone.  Jamaica has a well-deserved reputation as a dangerous place for tourists. If you do go to a bird sanctuary, be absolutely certain you go only with a certified guide in a group, and don't carry any valuables.
