I'm sure these are ducks but I can't identify them...

    Attachment: ducks.jpg

Today, 7/4/2009, when I went out to feed the horses I discovered two new birds on our pond.  I'm pretty sure they are ducks and that they're sort of young but I cannot identify them.  They remind me of Mallards, which I have one left of 10 and is very old, but these are not quite like him.  I'm located in SE Georgia USA.  There is another photo of them flying on plumfine's discoveries gallery.

    Can anyone help???

I would say black bellied whistling duck, but if you saw this in southern Georgia the are rare.

They are definitely black-bellied whistling-ducks, and they aren't common there, but I'm not surprised.  They seem to be expanding their range.  We have had a flock in South Alabama (Dauphin Island) for some time now.  Beautiful ducks.

We also have them here in Mississippi where they are pretty rare.  I saw 8 about a month ago.

Wow!  This is cool!!  I sure hope they stay here on the farm.  Maybe my lonely Mallard will be happy to see them and make them feel at home.

I'll post some more pictures later of some of my other visitors.  Our farm is about 55 miles inland from Brunswick, GA.  During the heavy rains we had earlier this year we had seagulls and ospreys visiting us now that was a treat!

they are def expanding, but sure are localized.  i went my whole life seeing 5 or so, then on a trip to Lake Martin near Laffayette this year, i saw >30, it was lousy with them.
