    Is this a house finch

    I saw a picture of one elsewhere, but I've never seen one in this area before. Been here in SE TX for 30 yrs.

    I've been wondering who was eating my sunflowers! Caught this guy last week. He was at the feeder too!

    House finch is right on the red head.  House sparrow on the other.  I looked up the other finch I have seen them talk about--Cassin's finch and he has an pale eyebrow and less red.  On the map there is a part of SE texas that is not covered by the house finch, but maybe they decided to invade.  I don't know what the habitat is like and why there would be such an empty spot.  Maybe you are located near the edge of their range.  Someone more knowledgeable may have more info.

    Hello, sparkyred. I will help you upload photos to Whatbird. Follow these steps:

    1. In the top, right-hand corner of the screen, it says Signed in as sparkyred | Sign out | Help | Inbox. Click on sparkyred.

    2. On the right side of the Profile page (the page you are now on) you will see three boxes: Options, My Blogs and My Galleries.

    3. Under My Galleries, click were it says Create New Gallery.

    4. Find the Common Tasks box in a similar location; under this tab, you will see add picture. Click.

    5. Add your pictures.

    If you need more help, post a message where I can find it.

    One more House Finch confirmation request.  This was taken in the Santa Cruz Mountains, at the Windy Hill Open Space Preserve.  Given the unique coloring, it's hard to imagine it is something else.
