Panasonic Lumix FZ28 - scope? Newbie questions.

I only recently came across the fact that people can use spotting scopes with their digital cameras.  I tried looking around online and am having trouble finding a solid answer. Is it possible to use a scope with the FZ28? How much does it increase your ability to zoom in from a distance?  Are the pictures clear?  Am I completely misunderstanding the basics of a digital camera and a scope?  How is it done?

My main problem is 18x optical zoom is lovely, but even more would be fantastic, particularily getting birds way out in the water. Maybe I'm just getting greedy? ;)

Thanks very much for any help you can give :)

Digiscoping is far cry from what it was a few years ago. It has become very involved and with that expensive to set up.

You will require a good optical scope that will run you up to a few hundred dollars, plus the camera mount to the eye piece of the scope. You will require a good tripod that will run you a good number of dollars a $40 to $50 walmart special will not handle it.

Your camera will have to have a live view (that is the lcd panel on the rear of the camera).

You will have to spend a good amount of time taking practice shots to get the process down.

My advice get yourself a DSLR camera and a good long range lens such as a 400mm. When you add different focial lengths you will have a greater range of use.
