Mewing Bird
I am in the North Georgia mountain area in light woods. I keep hearing what sounds like a cat crying in the afternoons. I think it's a bird because the sound seems to move but I have never seen anything. Help!

Re: Mewing Bird
Perhaps a Gray Catbird?
Here
is a page about them. Click on "Play sound from this species", and you can hear their call. Wait until the end of the recording to hear the cat-like "Meow!"

Re: Mewing Bird
Thanks to the two who responded to my question about a "mewing bird." I was out back yesterday in the evening and again heard the sound but closer. I looked toward it and a screech owl flew into a tree nearby. I don't know why the owl would make the noise during daylight hours, but we have never heard it after dark -- just the soft cooing hoots.
