    Reddish Egret or heron?

    Attachment: Reddish Egret.jpg
Doesn't have the bi-color beak like the picture of a Reddish Egret in my field guide...so is it some sort of heron?  Seems too big to be a Little Blue.  Thanks for your help!

Definitely a nice shot of a juvie Reddish.

Sunshineg8r, since you're in the area, I'm curious as to where you saw this one.  I've only seen two of them, and both were at Merritt Island NWR (on Black Point Wildlife Drive).

I'd just like to point out that this isn't a juvenile, but rather an immature or second-year adult. The juvenile Reddish Egret is a brownish-gray color, while this bird has the typical adult plumage, but doesn't have yet the pink-based bill of older adults.

You're right, I was speaking imprecisely.

Lyceel, he was on the jetty rocks at Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral just a few weekends ago.  When is the best time to go to MI NWR for the migratory birds? Thanks.
