SPYBIRD:
Taken in Wichita, Ks. yesterday. Sorry for the bad picture, I have only seen the black/white type of junco. I read through the thread that Photgog started "Junco red-backed" and I looks to me like what Matt called a Oregon Junco. What do you all think?
as far as lfe list goes, do you count all juncos as one life bird? Tia
Danny
As far as life lists go.... I personally use a 279(a), 279(b) sort of thing. For example, I don't count the Krider's and Harlan's ssps of Red-tailed Hawk as individual life birds, they are (b) and (c) after 'eastern'. The 'Red' Fox sparrows I get here in CT are (a), and the sooty/pacific one I had in Alaska is (b).
And for the bird in question, it almost looks a bit like a 'pink-sided' Junco ssps. However, I can tell you from studying the Slates here in CT last winter, there can be extreme variations. And I believe integrades as well. If I'm not mistaken, KS in in 'Pink-sided' land.
