I was wondering why suddenly about 2 weeks ago 3 breeding pairs disappeared from my yard. I see in my reference book that they do go South for the winter, but we are far from that at this point. There were mockingbirds in those shrubs until the thrashers came. Now that I think about it, this is a yearly occurance, then the mockingbirds come back, but they have not this year, as yet. I am in SC near the NC line, about 1000' elevation. Maybe the thrashers just come here to breed and then leave?
