    Re: Golden Eagle

When searching taxanomically and in Make-A-Guide, shouldn't the golden eagle be filed after the Buteos and the Bald Eagle filed after the Kites?  Not sure, but I think I've seen more and more field guides going to this taxonomy.

    Re: Golden Eagle

Acording to National Geographic which we use as our standard the Golden Eagle is in the Accipitridae family which has the Eagles come before the Hawks.

    Re: Golden Eagle

I'm glad to see that the National Geographic guide is the standard, as that is the guide that I keep closest to my computer (sure I could run & grab my Sibley or Audubon, but with NG so close and handy, why would I?).  I did not think that the Golden Eagle and the Bald Eagle were actually related, beyond both being referred to as eagles.  I thought that although they are Accipitridae, the Kites and Sea-Eagles (including White-tailed Sea Eagle, Steller's Sea Eagle, and Bald Eagle) were closely allied, while the Buteos and Golden Eagles were closely allied.  Of course, between the two "branches" of the family tree would be the Harriers and the Accipiters.

Of course, it doesn't really matter, I just thought that it would be something interesting to include in the guide.
