    Baltimore Oriole

Another visitor to our feeder. Is this a female Baltimore Oriole?

This actually looks like a female Bullock's Oriole. Where are you located?

    Re: Baltimore Oriole

Looking again at the picture it could also be a first year female Baltimore Oriole, which does occur in your area in winter. If you could post more pictures that would help with the identification.

If this does turn out to be a Bullock's Oriole, then it would be a very rare sighting for North Carolina.

    Re: Baltimore Oriole

In my opinion, this is a 1st year female Baltimore Oriole for sure.  Looking at the the nape and auriculars, it is obvious that they are very gray, lacking almost all yellow tones.  In a Bullock's Oriole of the same age, this area (nape and auriculars) is a bright yellow-orange.  Also, you can see a bit of pattern on the mantle, which points more towards Baltimore.

And as for range, Baltimore Oriole's winter range extends up the Atlantic coast into NC, so, it's not too out of range.

Here's the only other good pic that I have. I appreciate every one's inputs.

    Re: Baltimore Oriole

I agree with tim.birdboy, this looks like a first winter Baltimore Oriole.

    Re: Baltimore Oriole

Sorry about the wrong ID. After studying the picture again, and especially with the second picture I definitely agree that this is a first year female Baltimore Oriole. The first picture made it seem (to me at least) that there was a lot more yellow on the bird's head, which would fit with the female Bullock's, but the second picture clearly shows a gray head and only yellow on the breast, which points to the 1st year Baltimore Oriole.

My first impression was female Baltimore oriole, but when I look at a female Bullock's oriole, I changed my mine.
