Is this a Junco, too. Jpeg attached

    Attachment: small-bird.jpg

    Hello,

This bird is about the same size as the junco from the other day, but is it the same type of bird?

    Please and thank you.

I'm pretty sure that this is an American goldfinch.  You can see the black wing with white stripe, and there's a lot of yellow on the breast, especially near the head.  (It's a lot easier to see the details if you adjust the contrast of the picture a little...)

    Not 100% sure it's a goldfinch, though...  but it's definitely NOT a dark-eyed junco.

(Speaking of adjusting pictures, I recommend using www.picnik.com for quick-and-easy photo adjusting -- it's a free Flash-based photo editor that allows you access to the basic photo editing tools such as contrast/exposure fixing, crop, resize, etc.  You can upload photos from your computer, but also can type in a URL -- which is what I did for this picture -- and it'll load the photo that way too.  Just a quick and simple way to fix the bird photos a little to make it easier to see details.)

It my just be my eyes but it looks to have a yellow tint to it and with the wing marking i would say it's a goldfinch.

But as I said it could just be me seeing yellow thats not really there

Hello, Thanks for the input and the cool web link, I will check it out.

I shot the pic thru a window and I do not remember seeing a lot of yellow on the bird and if there was it was not very bright yellow.  But it sure looks like it in the pic, but as i said, its a dull yellow at best.

    Thanks again.

The male American goldfinch is a bright yellow during the summer, but both male and female goldfinches are pretty dull yellow during the winter.

It looks good for a winter American goldfinch.
