    Red Shouldered Hawks

    Attachment: 080223 017c.JPG

I'd been seeing him/her around, soaring, hunting, perched...I kept thinking there was more than one of them---but I couldn't be sure.  Today, I'm sure.  I saw them both.  Together!

     I've never seen that before.

Does anybody know, is this a life-time partnership or just a 'here today gone tomorrow' thing?

Either way, I think they are beautiful!  I enjoyed watching him show-off for her.  Man can these big birds fly!  Dip, dive, wheel and soar.  You can tell that they enjoy using their wings!

I don't know about red shoulders that far south, but I do know the red tails are nesting right now. My neighbor has a nest in his tree line.  You might be seeing a mating ritual. The female is usually the bigger bird in buteo's world.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because you were there.
