It is a Chinese Golden Pheasant.  Native to Asia, and often kept as pets.  Your bird is most definitely an escaped or released bird.

    Yep, golden pheasant.

Those were tried to establish as a game bird like the ringneck, but I guess they aren't as adaptable like the ringneck.

That is  male Golden Pheasant and a fine example he is to

I used to breed them back in New Zealand along with the Reeve's , Swinhoe's Pheasants, Lady Amherst, and the Silver Pheasants.

What a spectacular bird!  It is exciting to see something so unusual in your yard, isn't it?  I've only seen a female ring-necked, quite dull compared to this fella, but exciting none the less.  What part of the world are you located in? (If you don't mind my asking?)  They say my pheasant is an escapee too but not sure what to do with it.  I guess I'll just keep feeding her until some other option comes available.

What should I do to help it?

I'm worried that it escaped or was let go.  Fed it this morning but haven't seen it since.

What is its favorite type of food/seed?

    Thanks so much.

That is nice that you fed it. I don't know what to feed it but others here will know. My first thought was that you might call a Wildlife Rehab. Specialist or is there someone you know that know of / cares for exotic birds or pets. If it is not used to being out in the wild I would think its chances for survival are pretty dim.

It is very pretty....I wouldn't mind looking out and seeing that bird in my yard.

Here in Korea we have lots of golden pheasants in captivity. But they're still very beautiful...

Did the rainbow bird come back?!

Do you have a zoo nearby? The other idea I had was to call some sort of specialist at a zoo.....they may be able to help you or refer you somewhere.
