    Beside Myself!

I'm giddy with the discovery of this marvelous site! I've selfishly only taken the time to register and gush about the newest bird in our yard, but tomorrow I'll devote time to reading some of the rich information all of you birdlovers share here.

We live in the InterMountain west in a very arid region, though the Snake River threads south of our ridge. Our irrigation is by ditches and depends on snow accumulation in the surrounding mountains. The biggest adventure for us has been the recent introduction of our bird bath heater and the resulting melee every day!

Having signed a contract with Fish and Game to provide refuge for game birds, we never anticipated the other species that would eventually nest here. I moved from the Midwest and missed some of the birds there. Well, blessings descended: a large flock of Cedar Waxwings visited last fall and have decided to stick around for breeding...wow! This is a huge part of my life.

    Hello Featherfinder!

Welcome to WhatBird!  It really is a great site.  There are some really knowledgeable people here.  Everyone is very helpful and we all love to try and identify birds.  Pictures are best, but it amazes me how with just a description somehow the identification usually gets made!

Hope you enjoy the site.  It is a bit addicting, but you can learn alot!

    Welcome, featherfinder!

We do have a lot of fun here at Whatbird.  We may not always agree but it's all to help ourselves and others improve their bird ID'ing skills and to be able to share a passion for birding!

I remember the first time I saw Cedar Waxwings....I thought I'd died and gone to bird heaven!

hope to see some pictures from you soon!  ( *)>

    Hi valleygirl,

Thanks for the reply: in all I've perused on the web, this site beats all! I'm still excited and will probably make a fool of myself in some of my messages! I do have many photos of precious visiters here, and will take the time to upload some. One of my favorites is a barn owl, "Screech" whom we lost to a neighbor's cat!

     Later...featherfinderSleep

Don't worry featherfinder, if you make a fool of yourself you'll be in good company!  HA!

This site is addictive, as Nancy said, but I like to think of it as educational so I don't feel so badly about checking it all through the day while I'm at work!

Oh, and by the way, I love your scripture

    Re: Beside Myself!

    Hello, Nancy,

Thank you for the friendly welcome! I agree, already, that this is a resource beyond my imagination. Case in point- my learning of the Pine Siskin who visited my bird bath last night and stared me down! It took just a handful of clicks with the search engine and I'd found my visitor! Sure hope there are more siskins coming...
