    help identify this bird

Hello, I am hoping you can help me identify a bird.  About a month ago a whole flock of birds landed in my yard.  They were around for about a day and a half and I have not seen them since.  ( live in NW Missouri)  At first glance I thougt they were black birds, but at closer look no.  They were very dark in color almost black,  more dark streaks of brown than black. About the size of a robin yet, did not stand tall like a robin.    I have looked at the different variations of black birds/crow but have not been able to identify these. For the day they were here they ate right along side my robins, black birds would have chased them away.

Take a look at European Starling.  It could have been a flock of them in the middle of changing from winter coats back to their sparkling black spring plumage.  They're about the right size and they like to stick together and eat on the ground.
