    some kind of bird of prey???

    I keep seeimg lots of these hovering over my house in Pennsylvania, it looks like some kind of bird of prey.  I know its not the best picture but i really would LOVE to know the species.

    How big do you think the wingspan was? Around 51'' maybe? Because I think it could possibly be a Swainson's.

    The wing spand looked pretty big, I see lots of them everyday but they are so high i couldnt get a better picture

    Afraid so.  You can tell by the very typical dark pattern on the underwing. Why do you think it's something else?

    Well now that i think about it, I guess your right.  It did kind of look like one but i have never seen them before in my area and now all of a sudden I see one everyday

    Wow, glad you posted. I was stuck on that one and could only muster up Swainson's Hawk. Turkey Vulture it is! Yes

    I just looked into my bird book and I think its a Turkey Vulture too.Wink

    Sure is a Turkey Vulture. The reason why you haven't seen them before in your area is because that in most of PA they are only there during the summer.

    BTW, where about in PA are you?
