    Eastern Bluebird

Saw my first Eastern Bluebird today!  Considering the kinds of birds I used to see from whereever I've lived (hordes of Starlings, House Sparrows and Grackles), I never thought I'd ever see a Bluebird, let alone from my own house.

I would've *never* seen them without binoculars, and it was pure chance I spent time scanning through distant trees....  there they were!  Presumably a male and female pair sitting on a branch.  One bright bright blue with a red breast, the other a more gray with red breast.  I even called my G/F up so she could see, but she couldn't find them.  I spent prolly 10 minutes watching until they moved off... and for that moment, I had to contemplate whether I should stay home from work on the off chance they might come back...Wink

I agree, Eric, that there are some days when I had rather stay home and watch birds than go to work!  Who needs a paycheck!  HA!

I might be in luck!  They're still around, and I've seen them everyday in the same couple trees.  They both chased away a Robin that came onto the tree I first saw them in.  Maybe they'll stay the season?

    Re: Eastern Bluebird

That is so awesome!  When we first moved here, I saw them often in the trees behind our house.  A family nested somewhere and there were 5 of them all summer - mom, dad and the babies.  It was such a joy to look out my window and see them.  When I was outside I would hear their lovely song.  Now that more houses have been built behind us, I don't see them much anymore and I fear they have moved on to more open woodlands.

You know what they say don't you - the bluebird brings happiness!  That is a good sign for you!  :-)   I hope you get to enjoy them all summer.

    Re: Eastern Bluebird

They stayed Yes  They have a nest in a hole on the tree I first saw them on at the banks of a small lake.  They are in and out constantly bringing food; the female has expanded her search range, bringing her to trees for brief moments just outside our house.  Good Deal!
