    what bird is this?

Can anyone tell what bird this one is?

Photo was taken in Orange county, CA in April.

It was at just another park with a small lake in residential area.

There were mallards, domestic ducks, geese, American coots, a couple of muscovy ducks and such around there.

     Thank you!

I am just taking a guess, but from the pictures in my field guide I would say it is an egyptian goose.

Wow,  not only I had never seen this bird around here before, but I actually had never heard the name Egyptian goose either.

I didin't think it was so ugly, but it just looked rather unique.

The poor bird didn't have its right foot,by the way.Sad

Well, thank you guys for helping me identifying this bird! Big Smile

    Re: what bird is this?

This is definitely an egyptian goose.  A nonmigrating bird that apparently is now setting up colonies here in the U.S., escapees from private collections and zoos.  We have a few colonies here on the east coast of Central Florida and if you google this bird, you will find it pretty much is everywhere now and that they are pretty aggressive towards other birds.

     I love the red legs!

    Re: what bird is this?

Yup- definitely an egyptian goose...we had a few at a zoo I worked at a few years ago- the darned things were so aggressive to our other birds that they ended up being put in with the Rhinos and giraffes... one in our african bird exhibit ALWAYS picked on the African black ducks... poor things.

I'm sure they'd taste as good as any other duck/goose... good luck catching it though! They are fast even when they are pinioned!
