    Hi Everyone

I just found and joined your site a few days ago. I've been a backyard birdwatcher for years, but obviously not as highly skilled as most of you sound.
I live in Shippensburg, (South Central) Pa.
I plan on retiring in 2 years (actually 1 year, 10 months, 3 days - but who's counting) and I'm considering becoming a mammal and bird rehabilitator.
    I also show/breed Miniature Dachshunds.
We have several types of feeders in our yard and draw in lots of varieties. We even had a pair of nesting Bobwhites last year. On January 1st 2007, we had a Great Blue Heron visit our pond for two days and manage to steel all of our foot-long Koi.I have some great pictures of that.
Glad I found you. You have a great site!

Howdy to you too CinArt!  There are some experts here but there are also many more who are just simple backyard birdwatchers like you.  WHen the ID questions come up here I just grab my field guide or search the internet and make a guess. SOmetimes I'm wrong but many times I'm correct and it's fun to guess anyway.  But some of my guesses come from my own experiences over the last 2-3 years.  So, please don't be intimidated just join in and enjoy the fun and you just might learn something too!

    Deborah579,

You shouldn't hold back because you think you don't have enough knowledge.   just jump on in, grab your fieldguide and take a guess.  Once you ever make a correct guess...you'll be hooked!  NOw, I know my limitations and tend to stay away from making guesses on Hawks and waterfowl because I just don't see those very often but if it's a question about a backyard bird I'll give it a whirl.  I bet you know more than you think.

Hey valleygirl, that fuzzy bird you're trying to ID in the quiz - it looks blue to me and a little larger than a Titmouse. How about the Jay or Flycatcher family?

    Re: Hi Everyone

Which quiz are you speaking of?  Raptor's Quiz?  You should go over there and post your guess.  I'm probably in the doghouse over there right now so I'm stepping back for awhile. ;)

    Re: Hi Everyone

No, I don't know much about that kind of thing. I can just ID my backyard friends, that's all. I do know a thing or two about dog houses though. If it doesn't cost money and you can't get fired.........who cares?

Do I detect a bit of OCD? Takes one to know one. Better out than in. Much healthier....... Trust me.
