Need help with very black duck ID

    Hi,

I spotted a duck in a pond in Brooklyn NY last week that I cannot ID.  It was very black, jet black all over, with a purple shimmer on the back of it's head and on it's neck, it had a bluish-green stripe on the side of it's body. The beak was a yellowish-brown color.  It was a fairly large duck, larger than a mallard.  I thought it's probably the "black duck" but all the pictures of black ducks look so much lighter than the duck I saw and do not have any purple shimmer on its head.  It was really a beautiful duck, quite striking but I did not have a camera with me.  Anyone else seen a duck like this?

     Thanks

Closest I can come up with is a Black Scoter, but that has a very yellow beak and no other colors on the body - just solid black.
