How do I re-size photos so that I can post them?

Hi.  I just tried to upload a photo of a bird I am trying to get identified, but I got a message that the file was too big. I think it said 420 or 460 kb.  These are photos I added to my computer from a digital camera.  Is there a way to re-size them?  Thanks. JoyceB

I make them fit using a photo editing program.  When I look at my photos one of the option at the top is edit and then I have the option to change the color, crop, resize and compress.   I usually crop and compress mine and they work just fine on here. I hope this helps.

I was having the same problem JoyceB.  I would wait forever for a pic to upload and then it would tell me it was too big. Couldn't figure out why i was unable to post pics but I finally read something in the manual that came with my camera about what size the pics needed to be for emails and stuff so I changed the size using my photo editing program that came with my camera and it has really helped.

the best tool i found, resizing without any loss of quality is to go download (free!) the windows powertools resizer... a small very good program. after you save the picture to your computer, go to my computer, highlight the the picture in the list, right click, hit resize picture...it saves it as a ...for example  "thispicture(large).jpg"...rename that picture a anme without the "(large)" part of the file name...this turns a 3 mp picture to around 25-100 kb, but the quality of excellent...if you have any trouble, post back here, and i will see if i can help..but i think it will be easy enuf..it works

one thing i should have added here was, if you resize it fit "email" like most photo editors do,  the resolution, and over all picture quality drops to 480x640...not good for us to look at close...but the resizer maintains the overall size, so we can blow it up and see it better...just a hint

Thank  you, thank you, thank you for all the help.  I tried resizing it first from my editing and all it did was put me in Paintbrush.  So, I went with downloading the resizing tool, and it worked perfectly!  Thanks again!  JoyceB
