Red Breasted Bird. San Diego, CA.

    Attachment: bird.wma

This bird is small, red breasted....

I've looked in the ID areas, but can't find the exact bird. It might be a House Finch.

    The photos are posted in Anya's Gallery - Red Breasted Bird 1, 2, 3 , 4

I am attempting to attach the sound I captured from my video cam........

The sound should be definitive if you can post it. In the meantime, I would say that this bird hints at being a finch and you'd be on the right track with House Finch. However, I am noticing that the tail has a notched tip which would make it a Purple Finch, a near-exact match to the House Finch otherwise.

That said, I am not entirely convinced, at this level of detail, that it is definitely a Purple Finch.

This morning, I was watching this bird again, and noticed a patch of red/rust on the back toward the tail, looking remarkably like the House Finch illustration (the one in flight).

By the way, the sound byte is attached to the original post of this thread. The file is "bird.wma"

Thanks for this forum, it is really nice!

I'm glad it worked out for you to check out this bird a second time. Sounds like you got it figured out!

    Great work,
