    Re: Sparrow?

Can't really see the rump, but I'd guess fox sparrow. Maybe a song sparrow?
Don't cry because it's over, smile because you were there.

    Re: Sparrow?

Savannah Sparrow gets my vote.  The breast pattern is wrong for Song Sparrow. Here's a Song Sparrow showing its nice dark breast spot:

    Re: Sparrow?

Wouldn't the savannah sparrow have some yellow above the eye?

    Re: Sparrow?

I was wondering about that. Doesn't it look like this one has a little yellow behind its eye?

    Re: Sparrow?

Not a Savannah.  Song Sparrows don't all show such defined breast spots.  If it isn't a Song (which I think it is), maybe a Lincol's??  Looks too big, but I always confuse Lincolns for Songs without the breast spot.

    Re: Sparrow?

Having seen a few lately, my first guess was Lincoln's.

    Re: Sparrow?

This is definitely a Song Sparrow.

EDIT: I will explain my reasoning.

I would expect Savannah to have a white crown stripe, yellow supercillium behind the eye, overall lighter coloration with crisper streaks on the breast and crown and fewer breast streaks. I would also expect it to have a lighter, cleaner breast than this bird, which is a grayish, dirtier looking breast typical of Song. The bill is also pretty dark on this bird, suggesting Song.

I would expect Lincoln's to have a buffy malar, grayish face above the eye, very very crisp breast streaks, with buffy wash across the breast and down the sides. This bird shows none of those field marks.
