This bird was in the woods behind my house in Connecticut.  I know for a fact that there are Black and Whites living in those woods.....and I saw one that same day.  However, I never saw a female....or any B&W that looks like this.  From what I have researched, the females have white cheeks and throats as opposed to the males being black.  In addition, the contrasting black and white is much more defined in males than females.  All that leads me to believe this is a female Black and White Warbler.  Also because I don't know what else it could be with that streaking underneath.

Yes...it does look like a female black and white warbler.  Also, you are correct about the cheek differences.  The only other birds that look like that in your area could be the blackpoll warbler, but i believe that they have an all black cap (the male does).  But I would feel comfortable saying 100% its a black and white warbler. Not bad pictures either!

Did you notice it going up trees like a nuthatch at all? Because I've seen these and they do that.

Absolutely. That is what made me think B&WW in the field.  In the first photo you can see the trunk of the pine tree the bird was in.  There was a row of maybe six pines and it went from the bottom of the first trunk, up the trunk to the top, then back to the bottom of the next tree in line to repeat the process.

 

The male (bottom photo) was doing the same when I saw him....only he was going down the trunk of a large oak tree.
