Looks like a Stellar Jay, but it isn't

I have a couple of birds that come to visit in my tree that look exactly like a Stellar Jay except for the coloring.  They are grey, have a top crop, banded wings and a bit of blue on the wings and tail. They also sound like a Stellar Jay.  We live in east Saskatchewan right on the Manitoba border and a far as I know there aren't any Stellar Jays around here.

When you say a crop top - do you mean a crest? or no crest, if so How about a Blue Jay? If not a crest then how about a Gray Jay - just guessing here.

I have been trying but having a hard time.  Camera is always in the wrong plac when they come.

In the absence of a photo, how about a more detailed description? Exact color(s), crested or not (if not, then Gray is possible; Blue jay is out of range and IS crested), size, etc. For that matter, why couldn't it be a variant Steller's? According to Cornell's All About Birds, there are two forms. Go here and see if your bird matches one:

Thanks for the link, I will try it. We are in the process of moving so I may be away until mid July.  I will check in when I can.
