    Help identifying WA bird

    Attachment: WA Bird.JPG
This little guy comes to my backyard feeder in the Puget Sound area of WA.  Can't seem to find the right bird in the search area.  Anyone know what bird this is?

    Definitely an American goldfinch.

Looks like an American Goldfinch.  See the variations tab on the American Goldfinch page in WhatBird.  It looks like the winter male, but at this time of year, I would expect the breeding male colors.  They have been bright yellow for a couple of months here in the Atlanta suburbs.

American Goldfinch that has just about molted into non-breeding plumage?

(Edit: Wow, in the time it took me to post this, two answers had already appeared.)

Thanks everyone!  I guess I just expected a goldfinch to have more yellow, but I'm new at this.  Smile

I also live in the Puget Sound area of Washington, and I certainly haven't seen any of those. I would echo the previous comments; it looks like an American goldfinch that hasn't developed it's golden color.

Hey! I live in the Puget Sound area too! Smile

Yes, that is an American Goldfinch (female). I keep getting those at my nyger feeder, at least up until the raccoons started clawing it down. Sad
