I've had a bumper crop of Downies here, and have been enjoying watching the juveniles make themselves at home. (It was a Whatbird forum member on another thread who made me realize that these were recently-fledged juveniles, and not just more adults.)
I was wondering why these Downies were buzzing the suet log but flying past, then circling around and buzzing it again. Once I realized that they were juveniles, I recognized the same behavior as human student pilots, making a low approach to the runway, then circling around and trying again.
