Anyone seen a downy do this before?

He was a baby and hanging upsidedown on to the bottom of one suet cage. There was another cage right next to it, of another flavor, so he could sample both at the same time.

But what made me laugh was that any crumbs that fell would land on his little chest (rather than to the ground) and he would pick them off and munch them too.

You should get video of these bird antics!  I can just see it in my mind!  I am so JEALOUS of those of you who get woodpeckers at your feeders!

I don't even have the money for a decent digital camera, much less a video camera! I wish! Ah, well... I have to admit, I honestly never thought these little guys could be so much fun.

I had 2 little Downy's having a blast at my hummingbird feeder last night.  The picture isn't very good (through a double window and too much zoom) but you get the idea!

The poor hummers didn't have any place to go because this was at their other feeder!

They love to drink out of the ant moat!

Nancy here is a tip for you and any one else who has a point and shoot digital camera with a zoom lens in the menu set up turn off the digital zoom all these cameras use a normal zoom plus digital zoom the digital zoom is the same as taking your image into say Photoshop making it bigger and the cropping it you will loose a lot of your image qaulity.

How funny! Do the hummers get territorial and chase the other birds?  I've held off putting any hummer feeders out for this fear, but I love hummers! I had a window hummer feeder one summer, and could get close enough to see their little throats move as they swallowed and even their tongues as they lapped at the liquid, but the feeder kept falling off and breaking.  I have a "super duper" suction cup now, and would love to try it again, but am afraid the hummers would chase everyone else away!

    Kiwi(Peter)

Thanks for the tip. My little camera only has a 3x zoom so I usually end up going to the digital zoom since it's very hard to get that close to the birds.

    StealthBunny,

The hummers get very territorial with each other.  They try with the Downies, but the Downies usually win since they are quite a bit larger!  I wouldn't worry about the hummers chasing off other birds.
