I can't tell you how excited I am about this application.  Unfortunatly, I was unable to get it to install on my Verizon XV6900 (HTC touch).  The applicatoin itself installed, but when it came time to install the database, it would not recognize my SD card.  Instead it found two devices called "Bluetooth" since I have a bluetooth explorer application for file OBEX file sharing, but it did not see my Storage Card device.

I verified the storage card was installed and accessible, and  has over 1 Gig free.

Any suggestions?  Any additional information I can provide to assist troubleshooting? Assuming we are able to resolve this, the question i have is whether you have set final pricing yet?  I am ready to purchase sight unseen (and I have a birthday check burning a hole in my pocket too....).

I solved my own problem.  I disabled Bluetooth Explorer, and then the installer correctly saw my SD card. 

Now the only outstanding question is how much will the full app cost and when can I order it!!

Congradulations for being the FIRST customer to download and install the Winged Explorer demo. I am glad to hear you were able to get it to install correctly. One of the biggest challenges was developing a installer for Windows mobile and finding the SD Card is a particular tricky issue.It sounds like the installer thought that the Bluetooth was the SD Card. I will have our developer's look more closely into this issue. Would it be okay if we contacted you to get some more information?

As far as pricing we are still working on that. Do you have any suggestions on pricing?

I think you would compete well with the National Geographic PALM software and probably be able to stay in the same price range.  Before your offer of a free copy, I was ready to spend up to $100.  More then that, and I would have had to justify it with my wife, and it might have been a while before I could have made the purchase.

My opinion of Pocket PC software in general is that lots of people will buy software that they might not ever really use if the price is under $25.  Between $25-$40 seems to be the sweet spot for most software, and at that range, people will pay for major upgrades, but expect minor incremental upgrades for free.  Highly specialized software can sell for more, and in some cases, much more (medical software for instance) but users expect free upgrades forever if they spend more then $100.
The other consideration is that Birders tend to be in the group of people with "disposable income" so $100 on software compared to their $1500 scope is not too much to ask (although we had a huge battle over raising the dues of our local birding club by $5/year, so you never know...).

There is nothing I would disagree with in your analysis. There are two viewpoints you can take. A. Legacy pricing like most Pocket PC software (low $40 high $100) or B. Specialized type of interactive reference software and ID search engine for a person with a hobby in birding ( > $100). I am aiming more at the B crowd. I actually do want perople to stop and think about the value of Winged Explorer compared to a collection of field guides, or a pair of binoculars or a trip to Costa Rica to bird.

Probably nothing wrong with starting at a higher price and seeing what the market will bear.  If you don't sell as well as you expect, you could always lower the price.
