Help, the Blackbird Liberation Army has invaded!

The BLA has taken over my feeder and keeping my regular songbirds away. I'm not racist or anything but what can I put out that red winged Blackbirds won't eat? I miss my regular crew.

I've already learned my lesson on suet. Instead of woodpeckers I get lots of Starlings and if they don't eat it all, Mr. Raccoon comes at night and cleans it out.

Look in the Whatbird store and there is an Aspects Vista Dome Feeder that might help keep the blackbirds out.  The dome is adjustable to help keep out larger birds.  Doesn't look like it holds but about a pound of seed though.  There are probably larger dome-type feeders out there though.  Might be worth a look

Thanks, that's exactly what I need. I figure they can eat what falls on the ground. Which should keep everyone happy.

LOL.  I think there's just something abotu this time of year, too.  I'm inundated with starlings, grackles, and cowbirds...  but this happens every year, right about this time of the summer. ...SIGH....

Re: Help, the Blackbird Liberation Army has invaded!

The only advice I can give other than putting up wire cages around your current feeders is divide up your feeders with certain kinds of seed. I use a lot of tube feeders for specific food. Like, one will only have thistle, one will have black oil sunflower, one will have safflower, one will have regular mix with cracked corn, one will have premium blend with NO corn. And the same with my other feeders. I have them placed in various places because certain birds prefer certain seed. I have a place where I put the corn mix somewhere farther away from the good stuff because Sparrows, blackbirds, cowbirds, starlings, grackles eat it and will leave others alone. But, I have the same problem with my suet cake feeders. I have  three and all of those birds listed will eat them all up in one day. I haven't yet figured out how to keep them off so that the woodpeckers can have it all. Its just something I deal with during the summer. Sometimes I will throw out garbage(bread, crumbs, pretzels, rolls, donuts, extras to be thrown away) out in a certain spot so that they will eat that and leave the suet alone. It usually works. Or I just chase them off. Some days they're bad while other days they don't visit at all. Good luck.
