I live in central Indiana. I am uploading a picture of a bird that has been spending the last 3 nights in my backyard. It has been banded. Green band on right leg and yellow on the left. I would like to know what kind it is and what the bands mean on the legs.

Well, it's a pigeon but I don't know what kind or what the bands might mean.  Others I'm sure will know more.

It is a domesticated Rock Dove.  The Pigeon probably has an owner's band on it and is often kept for pleasure, as well as, racing and homing exercises.  Look in your community for a large number of these hanging out around someone's home.  That is probably where there is a Loft and their home.

p.s.  They come in a wide range of colors and mixtures of colors
