    Problem with update feature

I am running Windows XP and am using an HP ipaq. I am running the released version of Winged Explorer (1.0.0903) and updater version (1.11.0724).

The auto update feature tells me that there is a database update and a program update. When I click next, I receive the following error: "There was an error transferring the file: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. Would you like to retry?"

This occurred on Friday and again today (Monday).

I am behind a proxy server, could that be an issue?

It probably is the proxy.  I can't download updates from work or when connected to the work VPN because they block most ports.

I know for sure if you are behind a firewall and don't "allow" the connection you will get an error like this. It sounds like the same behavior.

What type of connection does it make? Obviously the updater can speak to the server to know that there are updates available. http and https are both open. If it uses ftp, then it would need socks support to get out.

    It uses FTP I believe.

    Re: Problem with update feature

The proxy was the problem.  When my laptop is connected via my home network, the update proceeded fine.

BTW, the first time I tried the update failed on the device.  I had to reset the device before it would work.  You might want to note that for future users.
