    Quest For The Ivory-Billed Woodpecker

According to published reports by University of Auburn Researchers a recent sighting of an ivory-billed woodpecker has been claimed and the team claims that the ivory-billed woodpecker may be indeed still be in existence and living in the Choctawhatchee River Basin in the Florida Panhandle.  This is fascinating news for me as I live within 30 miles of the area and have begun a personal quest to attempt to photograph the bird that until recently was thought to have been extinct since the 1950's.  I am keeping a blog and photographs at my website at www.whispersofnature.org.

Nice Photos! I hope you can get a shot of an Ivory-bill do prove to the skeptics.

Your "yet to be identified hawk" sitting in the tree is a Red-shouldered Hawk. Notice the red barring on the chest.

Thanks for the compliment and thanks for the ID on the hawk.  I strongly suspected it to be a red-shouldered hawk but was not sure enough to go with it.  The bird kept himself shielded from me while in flight.  I am pretty sure that it was a different bird than the other red-shouldered hawk as there was a substantial difference in local between the two photos.

Re: Quest For The Ivory-Billed Woodpecker

I was having a discussion with a friend about the ivory-billed and in the dialog I decided to pull a photo of a red-pileated woodpecker out of moth balls.  The photo got a number of positive compliments before  If any are interested in seeing it it is at
