Took a morning walk around the canal.
I take my camera with me when I walk. These were taken last fall at a nearby ponding basin of Black-crowned Night Herons.
Wissa, yours might be a juvenile - at least that pose matches the juvie pose in my Kaufman guide. Your blue heron image looks quite a bit like the black-crowned because it's in the "hunched pose", but the adult great blue doesn't look much like the black-crowned once it extends its considerable neck:

Looks like Night Herons to me, not Blue Herons. It is still a good catch though.
So sorry I was looking at the wrong picture, the OP's pic is defintly a A Blue Heron
