New to birding, this site, photography, etc.

    Hi everyone,

I am a total novice about birds, photography (bought camera Sunday), and so on.  However, yesterday I did teach myself to open a Flickr account and even loaded my first pictures there.

My feeder is humming with bird activity.  Some of them I can identify but many I cannot.  My intent is to learn more about these feathered guys/gals and try to capture some of their activity with this little digital camera.   Since June, I have seen some unusual critters...the orange Cardinal...the Red Bellied Woodpecker with an ALL red head...or was it a Sapsucker hybrid?  Also, two birds with missing feathers around their necks...possibly disease/mange?

Hopefully, given time, I will be able to contribute something interesting to the forum.

Welcome to Whatbird, d'artanian.  Just post your pics and someone on this forum will be able to help you ID them.  Just keep taking pictures.  Practice practice practice!

that sounds like a red headed woodpecker and the neck thing is a molting disease. blue jays and cardinals get it often and their whole head gets bald, i believe that its called head mites. but dont fear! their head grows back! lol!
