    Re: Caspian Tern

The Terns have come to town. Not fully sure but I do think they are Caspian Terns.

Their "call" is a shock to the ears when first heard but now I love it. I have been watching them 'cause they are amazing at fishing. ( I even told the Ring Bill Gulls that the Terns are better at fishing than they are). They always get the fish (almost).

Today I watched one dive in the most artful masterful way straight into the water and rise again with a nice sized fish in its beak. As it was flying across the sky the fish even escaped from its beak and started to fall back to the water but the tern swooped down and retrieved it. "Suppose that fish thought it had a second chance at life in earthly waters...nope 'twas meant to meld with bird. I was wondering where the Terns take their fish 'cause they don't seem to eat them straight away I see cormorants do.

I felt like I got such a good show that I should have made offering to this one...toss it a bit of fish in place of applause. I don't fish though and never will. That bird was probably never aware of this little human at her watch place, a rock as her seat and obscured by lake trees & bushes with bees, birds, chipmunks and squirrels as passersby.
