i checked the what bird.com site and it did not answer my question.   Do these birds mate for life?  the site says they are monogamous,  however, that does not always mean they mate for life.   anyone know the answer?

I used to breed these back in New Zealand in my avairy we called them ring necked doves. This is wahat I say as there behaviour they paired up for life or until one died then they would find another mate they laid two eggs as do all in the pigeon/dove family and they hatched as 1 male chick and one female chick. BTW that is where the saying of a pigeon pair (for a couple who have a boy and a girl child) came from.

Read your comment about doves and recalled that I had this in my file.  I assume there are exceptions to every rule (2 eggs).

    Re: Eurasian Collared-Dove

Here in the States, we had the Ring-necked Turtle Doves for years.  These are smaller the the Eurasians and were the bird most commonly released at weddings etc.

I heard two explaination for the new comers (Eurasian Dove).  One that they escaped in Florida and spread up and along the coast.  The other explanation was that they are the bird of choice for the Vietnamese to release during events.

    Re: Eurasian Collared-Dove

Two comments on the extra egg.  The brown-headed cowbird has a large population here, but more at the expense of Abert's Towhee than the dove.  I read an article that the doves were not tolerating the extra egg.  Secondly, the cowbird egg is speckled.  What is interesting about the above egg picture is that the next day there were only two.  I assumed that a grackle had an egg for breakfast.
