Hello!
Thanks for such a great site! I know almost nothing about birds, but it was a great interest of my grandparents. Many happy memories watchng killdeer guard their nests in their front yard!
My question might be fairly difficult, since I didn't get to see the bird at all. I live in Indianapolis, Indiana - urban area, but our apartment is bordered by a thin ring of wooded area, which surrounds a small creek that feeds into a man-made pond. I heard the call this morning, around 9 am - there is snow on the ground and it is COLD!
The call was very consistent - two-three identical longer notes sounding somewhat lower pitched followed by three-four short staccato higher pitched trills.
I know this is not a lot to go by, but I thought I'd give it a shot. This is a call that I've heard a lot in our area, so it is probably a fairly common Indiana bird.
Thank you!
