    Re: Lark Bunting

We recently saw some Lark Buntings in a place that seems to be out of their range.

We were traveling east from Modesto CA, and stopped at a little state park for lunch. They were flying in & out of the low branches of trees there, close enough to clearly see the big white spots on their wings, and the white on the tail. I've never seen them before, but being from Colorado, I've seen pictures. Are they the only black bird with big white spots on the wing? Is California really out of range for them?

    Thanks~

    Re: Lark Bunting

The Cornell Lab's range map shows they migrate through the very southern tip of California but Modesto is much farther up, isn't it?  I guess anything is possible
