Birdwatching spots along the Highway 101 Corridor in California

I apologize for posting here, but there doesn't seem to be any place to discuss good birdwatching PLACES, which seems hard to believe. If I've missed it, I apologize. Maybe someone can point me in that direction and I'll repost.

Anyway, I'm planning a trip from San Francisco to the Los Angeles area. I'm assuming that someone has put together a list of good birding sites along this route. Anyone? Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Plenty along Hwy 1 South of Piedras Blancas Light Station. From Hearst Castle to San Simeon State Beach there's hummingbirds galore. You can see many pockets of sea birds, like gulls, terns, plovers, and the peeps. Take your scope, binoculars and camera. Be prepared to hike from your car over sand and rocks for at least 1/2 hour at each vista point. BTW Snowy Plover Beach is closed for nesting through September but I spotted pelicans, plovers, curlews, scoters, sea otters, and Red-breasted Mergansers off the coast just 3 miles north of Cayucos. Look for the windmill and hike down to the water's edge. Here's a link you can download the directions for this site or at San Lius Obispo Audubon. http://morrocoastaudubon.org/
