    Hello from VA

    Hi all,

I'm from central VA, and I love birds of prey, vultures in general. I have a HUGE colony of  black/turkey vultures that winter in my front/backyard, and I love watching them interact with each other. The same individuals spend most of the summer on the town water tower and across the street, so I see them year round and can identify some by markings on thier wings.

Thats about all I have, I look forward to learning from all y'all here!

I'm new. Bear with me :)

    Re: Hello from VA

Hello, I just joined also. At the Detroit Zoo we have turkey vultures wintering over and feeding on the raw bones and scraps that the polar bears leave behind! They sometimes perch on the cages of the resident vultures. These did not have red faces so I took them to be young turkey vultures. Typically its April when we start seeing them come back to Michigan. I watched one working on old roadkill that had emerged from the last of the snow cover. Last year I was down at Port Aransas, Texas in March and there were hundreds if not thousands riding the thermals returning from their winter locations.
