I don't think these birds are usually loners but s/he never brings friends along when he visits the pond. Which is pretty often. Sometimes there are cattle egrets around but not today. Usually he hunts around the edges of the pond but today he was perched out over deeper water.

Brown Thrasher - Lunch is Served!

There's a pair nesting in a small cedar tree on the lot line between us and a neighbor and I watched them all afternoon as they took turns feeding the children.

I'm itching to peek into the nest, but one of the parents is almost always present and I wont do anything that might bother them.

I was amazed when 2 Woodpeckers landed on a tree so close to me. I started snapping the shutter as fast as I could. Looking now at the photos, I suspect the 2nd bird was a young one.

I hung around watching and pointing the camera until he either got angry with me or curious. He paused in a tree very close to me just long enough for me to snap the shutter--then he flew right at me! I think he was trying to tell me to GO AWAY!
