I saw this beauty at CAS Milford Point in Milford, Connecticut. It was sunny, about 7:30am, very cold....under 32F.
The hawk was soaring quite low over the salt marsh and circling over a small area of woods. Eventually, it landed and perched in the tree right behind me. I snapped this photo and one more, then he shot down to the ground and attacked a small finch....it very well could have been one of the 10+ Common Redpolls that were there at the time.
It was so fast that I could only get a chaotic shot of him on the ground hunting, and nothing of him flying away with it. Nonetheless....it was a great experience on my first real bird watching outing!
