Thanks to Birdseye's tip I was able to follow up and find this info on the net:
"The race of Ring-necked Pheasants around Bosque del Apache in New Mexico has only a small ring of white on its neck, and is referred to as White-winged Pheasant. These birds, native to China, are widespread in the U.S., and have found sanctuary in the wildlife refuge..."
