would it be possible to see this bird in nova scotia canada, if not what kind of woodpecker would look similar size was about 10 = 12 inches red head black wings with with spot on each wing,thanks

Acorn Woodpeckers are strictly Western.
Try this. Look up Acorn Woodpecker in the Whatbird fieldguide. At the bottom of the page is a range map. You can always check the range of any bird this way. Also at the bottom left of the page is a section of similar birds, check if any of these match your bird. The first possiblity that comes to mind is Red-headed.
