Beautiful shot. I've found that while goldfinches are often very conspicuous, it's not so easy to get "just-right" photos of them (like this one).

I have to agree with that they can be in abunance but photo opts ain't always there when they are I tend to fire off as many shots as I can and then choose the best of those from the camera I look for comp, sharpness, exposure,
the composition that is the tricky one so many things can go wrong the exposure and the sharpness can to a degree be adjusted in post edit but not the comp what you got is what you got.
