I just got back from a trip to Tanzania. If you like birds, it's quite the place to go. I identified 108 species and saw more than that. A black kite stole a sandwich out of my hand.

I would also say look at the northern flicker. They are in the woodpecker family, and spend a lot of time feeding on the ground.

This is a common nighthawk. Look for it flying overhead eating insects at dusk; it has obvious white patches under the long, swept-back wings. It's pretty neat to see one on the ground.
