I heard some check and tsik kind of sounds, but there were several other birds around, including a house wren, so I can't say for sure that I heard this particular bird.

Seen today on Cañada Larga Road, north of Ventura, Ca. Also seen were Bullock's orioles, Western Bluebird, California Quail, Cedar Waxwing, Blue Grosbeak, Western Kingbird, and the omnipresent Bushtit.

Really? California Towhee? That was my first impression, but the way it was perched on the line like that, and it's song... it seemed more like a flycatcher of some kind. The conical beak sure doesn't say flycatcher, though.
I will defer to popular opinion... Anymore thoughts?
