Were you on one for the birding boats that make trips out to the Whooping Crane's feeding areas that is out of Rock Port - Fulton and leaves from Fulton? If you were, what was the name of the boat? I hope to go some time during the next 2 or 3 months.

I lost my Post after entering a fair amount of text and setting up some photos. Everything looked good in the Preview. When I hit the post button, Whatbird said that in that forum that posts needed to be approved and if I wanted to continue. I said to continue never to see my post again.

I too have had problems with posting during the last 2 weeks. Rather discouraging when one takes the time and effort to enter a post and it goes to never, never land never to be seen again.
Has any one purchased a non-Canon battery for a XTi in the $10-25 range? There are many on the web for this price while the Canon version is ...

Thanks everyone again.

Since I did not see this bird move in the tree or fly away, I did not see the white on the wings that one sees when a Mockingbird flies.
THANKS everyone for your comments. They have helped me determine that the identification of this bird is not obvious because of the lighting and it's health.

When I took this photo, I did not think Grackle or Mockingbird and I see Grackles several times a day in my back yard and a Mockingbird at least once a day in my front yard. Looking at the bill and head shape they do not correspond to a Mockingbird or Grackle. I agree there are lighting issues with the photos, but the shape of the head and ...

Goldfinches may come to your area in the winter, but they will not be very gold as their winter plumage is brown, black, white and gray with some gold. We are also disappointed here in Texas with their winter plumage.
Go to

to read all about them.

Both photos were taken last week in central Texas in Boerne near San Antonio in the same tree. At times when I look at these photos I think that this is the same bird, but at other times I think that one is a Thrasher and the other is a Cuckoo. The longer I look at the photos the more confused I become. Please ...
