I'll be in Houston the rest of the week and I was thinking about visiting the Arboretum and Nature Center.  Is the birding good there this time of year?  Any other suggestions?  I'll be staying in the vicinity of the George R Brown Convention Center and won't have a lot of spare time but really want to get in some birding. Thanks.

Terrible pic, the lighting was terrible yesterday.  First kestrel of the season and it caught the mouse while I was watching.

I considered young chipping but didn't think it had enough streaking on the chest.  Sibleys says they are heavily streaked and I considered this one sparsely streaked.  Either way, neither chipping nor vesper would be a lifer.  I just like to get them IDed right.

I know it's very difficult to tell a long-billed from a short billed unless they are together but what's your best guess on this one.  It looks more rust/brown than the other dowitchers seen that day and the bill looks a little longer.  Taken Mssissipp in mid-August.

I've gone back thru my pics and they look to be the same size in them.  I also saw dowitchers that day and they had more rust/brown coloring.  Here is another pic and I left the black-necked stilt in to give a size comparison
